In 1929 starte Jan van Bemmelen senior ( 1905-1970) zijn fotografiebedrijf achter het woonhuis Zuidbuurtseweg 30 in Zoeterwoude ( destijds was het nog nummer 37c)
Met de zeer beperkte middelen die Jan van Bemmelen voorhanden had maakte hij, met gevaar voor eigen leven. foto’s van de onderduikers die in Zoeterwoude zaten. Samen met de plaatselijk huisarts Dr Kortmann vervalste hij persoonsbewijzen voor de mensen die werden gezocht door de Duitsers.
